Stinging Pests

Paper Wasps

Paper Wasps gather fibers from dead wood and plant stems, which they mix with saliva, and use to construct nests made of gray or brown papery material.  paper wasps will generally only attack if they themselves or their nest are threatened.

Hornets

Bald-faced hornets are aggressive and will attack anyone or anything that invades their space, unlike other stinging insects that may only rarely sting when they feel extremely threatened. This makes bald-faced hornet removal, which should be left to a professional for safety, somewhat difficult. They have black bodies and a predominantly white-patterned face.

Yellow Jackets

Yellowjackets are a very common summer and fall pest in the United States. They are normally very slow to sting, but they are also very territorial. If the entrance to their nest is approached, they will become very aggressive. They can sting multiple times, and their stings can be very painful.

Outdoor Yard

Fleas

Adult fleas spend most of their time on the dog or cat, not on the carpet. This is why treatment of the pet is an essential step in ridding a home of fleas. Within minutes of jumping onboard, fleas begin to feed. Females can lay up to 50-100 eggs in pet bedding. Vacuuming can help reduce population. Thoroughly bathe pets with soap and water.

Cicada Killers

Cicada killers are not aggressive and do not have nest-guarding instinct of honey bees and hornets. You can walk through areas where they are active without attracting attention.

Fire Ants

A typical fire ant colony produces large mounds in open areas, and feeds mostly on young plants and seeds. Fire ants bite only to get a grip and then sting (from the abdomen), this is a painful sting, a sensation similar to what one feels when burned by fire

Pantry Pests

Indian Meal Moth

These pests like to feed on dried fruits, grains, seeds, nuts, chocolate, dog food, and bird seed. Females lay about 300-400 eggs that hatch in a few weeks. The best thing you can do is to make sure your pantry or cupboards are clean and the foods are sealed.

Grain Beetles

Ironically you will not find them in grain products, but instead will attack cereals, cake mixes, macaroni, cookies and chocolate. The main thing you can do to prevent them is to discard any packages that have been infested, and clean spilled grain and food sources

To prevent any other infestations, keep your pet on leash when walking outside, and be sure to regularly bathe them.

German Cockroaches

Spring Tails

SpringTails are omnivorous, free-living organisms that prefer moist conditions. Frequently found in leaf litter and other decaying material.

Mice

Primarily nocturnal animals, mice compensate for their poor eyesight with a keen sense of hearing. They depend on their sense of smell to locate food and avoid predators. They are largely herbivores, consuming any kind of fruit or grain from plants. However, mice adapt well to urban areas and are known for eating almost all types of food scraps
